everything is music
Murder By Death, she grinned, doors at 8, let’s go! Even today, I’m not sure of the name of that one song of theirs, still echoing in my mind, the voice from my sleep, let alone what it’s about. This is a thing with how I experience music, it was always you, you, you, the melody, the beat, the harmony, but meaning slips in and out. Spare snatches of lyric or chorus, all that’s left of you. I’m far more likely to remember who recommended the song, where I first heard it, how I felt that day. She gave me something cool to drink. The cello strikes the deep note, deep within, a smile swells.
pocketful of sand
shouts of joy mingle
in the surf
And that was it, for me.
This is a haibun, a Japanese short form combining a title, prose, and poetry. I wrote it for the reasons obvious above. It wasn’t for publishing, but I learned that Murder by Death is giving their farewell tour this year! So, had to share. Go to a show if you get the chance, they are great!
